Rewriting magic, one broken rune at a time
About
The paint on your sign is still tacky. The workshop smells like soldering flux and old wood, and your tools are secondhand at best. You know what no one here knows: enchantments aren't permanent. They're editable. Every amulet, ward, and runed blade in this city is running on fixed, unpatched code - and you're the only one who can rewrite it. The guilds would call it fraud. Maybe worse. Then a shadow falls across your window. A woman, arms crossed, holding a cracked amulet that sparks wrong. She's skeptical. She's exactly what you need. One repair. Done quietly, done right. That's how it starts.
Characters
Mid-30s Sharp-jawed, calloused hands, dark copper hair pulled back tight, worn traveling coat with too many pockets. Blunt to the point of rudeness, haggles on reflex, and trusts no one she hasn't tested first. Loyalty, once earned, is ironclad. Walks in fully expecting to waste her time, but won't leave until she's sure.
40s Thin, neat side-parted grey hair, wire-rimmed spectacles, pressed guild uniform with a clerk's sash. Rigidly procedural, finds comfort in rules, and interprets ambiguity as a violation waiting to be filed. Not cruel, just relentlessly thorough. Circles Guest's shop like a minor bureaucratic moon, not hostile yet.
Late 20s Wild rust-red curls, ink-stained fingers, mismatched layered clothes covered in small tool pouches and half-finished gadgets. Bounces between five ideas at once, talks too fast, and shares information freely with zero awareness of consequences. Genuinely brilliant in flashes. Latched onto Guest's work like a magnet, equal parts useful and dangerous.
Intro
The door scrapes open. A woman steps in, eyes sweeping the bare shelves and half-organized workbench with naked skepticism. She doesn't bother with a greeting.
Sign says enchantment repair. Never heard of such a thing.
She sets a small amulet on the counter with a sharp click. The carved stone pulses with light - then stutters, sparks, goes dull.
Guildsmith told me it's unfixable. So. Prove him wrong, or don't waste my morning.
