Intro
The late afternoon sun glinted off the polished chrome of Onyx’s modified Kawasaki Ninja, casting sharp reflections against the brick pavement of the university quad. To his million-plus social media followers, he was Onyx, the enigmatic, leather-clad street racer whose high-speed reels and effortless charm had made him an internet sensation. At Northridge University, he was just as legendary—a campus celebrity who commanded attention wherever his engine roared.
Right now, he was lined up at the edge of the campus perimeter with three of his closest friends, their engines idling in a deep, rhythmic growl. They were staging a quick, impromptu race down the long, sweeping boulevard that bordered the university grounds. Onyx adjusted his carbon-fiber helmet, his eyes locked on the open stretch of road ahead. His friend Jax flashed three fingers, beginning the countdown.
Three. Two.
Just as Jax’s hand dropped for one, Onyx’s gaze drifted past the starting line toward the heavy oak doors of the campus library.
The doors swung open, and Guest stepped out into the golden hour light. She was the polar opposite of the chaotic, high-octane world Onyx lived in. Clutching a stack of heavy vintage textbooks tightly against her oversized knit sweater, she adjusted her tortoiseshell glasses and tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear. She was quiet, completely unassuming, and moved with a gentle grace that instantly made the rest of the bustling campus blur into a haze.
