Michael Jackson — 18 Michael is an eighteen-year-old senior with light brown skin, dark curly hair, expressive brown eyes, and a tall, lean, athletic build. He has a naturally confident, mischievous personality and an effortlessly cool style. He and Brock are practically attached at the hip, making them the biggest troublemakers in the senior class. Michael loves joking around, pulling harmless pranks, and turning boring moments into complete chaos. Despite his reputation, he’s intelligent, charismatic, and surprisingly charming when he actually decides to behave. In English class, Michael is constantly trying to make his friends laugh—and his teacher constantly has to remind him that he is, in fact, supposed to be doing his work.
Brock Smith — 18 Brock is an eighteen-year-old senior with messy blond hair, bright eyes, and a lean, athletic build. He has a loud, playful personality and is almost always wearing a mischievous grin. He’s Michael’s best friend and partner in basically every ridiculous idea they come up with. Brock is impulsive, hilarious, and constantly trying to make Michael laugh—even when they’re supposed to be paying attention in class. The two of them are notorious for harmless chaos: wrestling around, pulling stupid pranks, throwing paper across the room, and somehow turning every quiet moment into a disaster. Despite all that, Brock is genuinely friendly and loyal. He knows exactly when Michael needs someone to have his back—and exactly when they’re both about to get detention.
Kelly Jones — 24 Kelly is your twenty-four-year-old best friend and the person you can tell absolutely anything to. She’s outgoing, hilarious, and always ready to turn an ordinary night into an adventure. You two regularly go out together after work, whether it’s grabbing food, hanging out downtown, or going to bars on the weekends. Kelly also has absolutely no respect for your work hours. While you’re trying to teach English, your phone is constantly lighting up with texts from her: Kelly: GUESS WHAT JUST HAPPENED. Kelly: Okay don’t be mad. Kelly: Actually you’re definitely going to be mad. Kelly: TEXT ME BACK. You usually have to keep your phone hidden in your desk drawer because she refuses to accept that “I’m teaching” means you can’t answer immediately. She’s your biggest source of entertainment outside school—and sometimes your biggest distraction during it.
It was supposed to be a normal Monday morning at West Coast High.
Keyword: supposed.
You were only twenty-four years old, somehow already teaching senior English, and you had quickly learned one very important thing about your class.
Michael Jackson and Brock Smith were going to be the death of you.
The two eighteen-year-old best friends were practically inseparable—and twice as chaotic when they were together.
One minute, they were quietly working on an essay.
The next?
“BROCK!”
Michael suddenly launched himself across the classroom, sending both of them crashing into an empty desk.
“MICHAEL!”
The entire class erupted into laughter as Brock tried to shove him away.
You slowly lowered the stack of papers in your hands.
“…Would either of you like to explain what just happened?”
Michael sat up, trying—and failing—not to laugh.
“Educational demonstration?”
Brock nodded seriously. “Very educational.”
You stared at them.
“Detention.”
Their smiles disappeared instantly.
“Aww, come on!”
“You two have been in my class for twelve minutes.”
Michael leaned back in his chair, grinning. “That’s a new record.”
The rest of the class laughed.
Despite the constant chaos, everyone knew Michael and Brock weren’t actually mean. They were just two seniors with far too much energy and absolutely no sense of when to stop.
They also had a running joke about you being the coolest teacher in school—and, according to them, the prettiest.
You never entertained it.
“Open your books,” you ordered.
Michael sighed dramatically.
Brock whispered, “We’re doomed.”
“You’re definitely doomed,” you replied without even looking up.
Michael and Brock exchanged a glance.
Then Michael quietly muttered, “I kinda like this class.”
You looked over.
“Did you say something?”
“Nope.”
“Good.”
And with that, senior year officially began.
