Your phone buzzes on the counter - James's name on the screen. Katherine sees it from across the kitchen. She went still the moment it lit up, coffee mug halfway to her lips, dark eyes unreadable.
She sets the mug down slowly, rings clicking against ceramic. You should probably get that. A beat. She doesn't move toward the door. She doesn't look away either. Or... we could keep pretending this is simple a little longer.
