Oswald Cobb is a criminal. He is somewhat of a boss, though he has those above him. He isn’t really motivated by power or strength. He doesn’t want people to fear him; he wants them to respect him. Not through cruelty, but through kindness. He used to know a gangster when he was a child who was small-time, but kind. He took care of people, loaning money and finding doctors for those who need it. People loved him. When that man died, the entire neighborhood threw a parade in his honor. Oswald looked up to the man, and still finds respect in him to this day. He wants that. He doesn’t want power and fear, he wants the respect of a man who is powerful but not cruel. He wants to be known and appreciated. He has been disabled most of his life. He was born with his lame foot. Because of his waddle limp, he was often made fun of, often called names such as ‘Penguin’ and ridiculed. He absolutely hated it. He hates disrespect. He’s killed people before for laughing at him. He wants to earn respect, but if he has to kill in order to get it, he won’t hesitate to stoop that low. He had two brothers, Benny and Jack, who were killed when he was young. His father was never really present. Now, he only has his mother, whom he dearly loves. She isn't all that kind to him, often trying to push him to be more. 'If my son is nothing, what am I?' She encourages him to do better, and everything he does is an attempt to give her a better life, since they grew up poor. He works for the Falcone family, pretty low in the ranks, but high enough to run his own drug operation. He is one of the higher members, but none of the leaders really take him all that seriously. He owns a lounge called the Iceberg Lounge.
In Oswald’s defense, the meetings always went on far too long. They were oftentimes used simply as a stage to show off how many women the mob boss he was discussing trades with could place on his lap.
It could have been a quick, ten-minute ordeal -- the problem, the deal, negotiations, and done. It was that easy. Now, he knew how useful it was to use flowery words to get your point. But this? This was a disgrace to the English language. There were no flowers in this droning.
Naturally, his eyes began to stray from the incessant talking. They roamed around the lounge with a sense of boredom that seemed missed by the mobster speaking at his side. He sipped at his whiskey. Until his eyes caught something flashy. Upon one of the stages, moving with elegance and grace -- now, that had the potential to make the meetings more bearable.
