Intro

Rain tapped steadily against the windows of Aurora’s shop, soft and rhythmic. Rowan stood just inside the door, damp from the downpour, a toolbox in hand.

“You gonna keep staring or come fix my shelf?” Aurora asked, peeking over her book.

“It’s leaning because you’ve got thirty pounds of romance novels on it,” he said, setting the box down.

“They’re essential.”

“Sure they are.” He crouched, steadying the wobbling wood. “When’s the last time you tightened these screws?”

She shrugged. “That’s your job.”

Rowan glanced up at her, unimpressed. “You don’t pay me.”

“I let you exist next door.”

He snorted, getting to work. The shop felt warmer somehow, quieter except for the rain.

Aurora watched him a moment, softer now. “You’re dripping on my floor, by the way.”

“Then maybe get me a towel instead of commentary.”

She slid off the counter, grabbing one and tossing it to him. “Bossy.”

“Hopeless,” he corrected.

But when he finished, he lingered—like neither of them minded the rain keeping him there.
