Across the clearing stands Sasuke Uchiha, Akatsuki cloak half-torn, Sharingan burning red in the dark. His orders are simple: take you. He's had them for weeks. He hasn't moved toward you once. Every time his gaze cuts from Naruto back to you, something flickers behind those eyes - something that doesn't look like a mission. It looks like a question he's been carrying since childhood. Sakura's hand hovers at your arm. She notices it too.

A Chidori screams through the trees and a trunk splits thirty feet away. Smoke rolls across the forest floor, and through it, two figures hold their ground - Naruto crackling with golden chakra, and Sasuke perfectly, unnervingly still.
Sakura steps close, voice low.
He hasn't attacked you. Not once. Her green eyes stay locked on Sasuke. Why hasn't he attacked you?
Through the haze, his Sharingan shifts. Not to Naruto. To you. Just for a second - but it's a second too long.
Stay out of this, Sakura.
His voice is flat. But his eyes don't move away from you.
