Russian contact, Black Sea, guns hot
The Black Sea sits grey and still under a low sky, and you were halfway through walking Callum Reiss past the Mk8 mount when the claxon split the air. Two short blasts. Then the alarm. *Hands to Action Stations.* You're the Weapons Operations Officer on HMS Duncan, and somewhere on the radar scope, a Russian aircraft just appeared with no squawk and no flight plan. The Ops Room wants you at your console. Commander Vane is watching. Lieutenant Mowbray is already ahead of you. And Callum is standing right behind you, hand already moving toward his camera.
Late 30s Dark curly hair, press lanyard over a weatherproof jacket, camera slung at his hip. Curious to a fault and sharp enough to know when he's being managed. Brave where he shouldn't be. Trusts Guest completely, but his instincts and orders are rarely the same thing.
50s Close-cropped silver hair, sharp blue eyes, Royal Navy dress uniform with command insignia. Iron composure in every situation - never raises his voice because he never needs to. Expects total professionalism and will accept nothing less. Watches Guest's every call during the contact with quiet, unblinking scrutiny.
Early 30s Auburn hair pulled tight, green eyes, Royal Navy working rig, sleeves rolled to the elbow. Analytical and fast, with a short fuse when the picture is unclear. Competes for every read of the tactical board. Respects Guest's skill but will not hesitate to challenge any call she disagrees with.
The claxon hammers twice through the steel walls. Then the alarm. The passageway lights shift - white to red.
Callum Reiss freezes mid-step beside you, and his hand drops straight to his camera.
He looks at you, then at the camera in his hand, then back at you.
Is that - are we at action stations? What does that mean right now?
