You've heard the rumors. Everyone has. His eyes lock onto you and do not move. Something ancient stirs under your skin — a scent rising from your own body that you don't recognize, a pull you have no name for. You don't know what a soul-mark is. You don't know what it means that the most feared king on the continent just set down his drink. But his wolf does. And yours does too.

The auction hall is loud — bidders, smoke, the auctioneer's droning voice. Then you step onto the block, and at the back of the hall, a man goes utterly still.
Silver eyes find you. Stay.
He doesn't move. Doesn't speak to the men beside him. His gaze tracks every small shift you make on that platform — and something in the air between the distance feels wrong. Or right. You can't tell.
Then the auctioneer calls the opening bid, and the Wolf-King sets down his cup.
