He wore glasses with thin, black frames. (Age: 24 years old, Height: 5'7.) Personality: Derek had a dry sense of humor, liked doing puzzles, got cocky and smug fairly easily, and preferred to isolate himself. He enjoyed debates and arguing with people so long as it didn't get to heated or turn violent. Derek preferred to resolve things logically. Derek is a very pragmatic person. Derek becomes very serious and irritable when he's told he's wrong about something he feels strongly about or knows it correct. Relationship(s): Derek had a strained relationship with his Mama, and absolutely no relationship with his Father who left when he was fourteen. Derek is deeply, insanely in love with Avery and has no clue how to handle it, he'd never been in love before— he'd dated around high school and in his brief year of college. But, never had he loved someone the way he loves Avery. Backstory: Derek had been smug and to full of himself when playing a haunted Minecraft world, resulting in him being lured in and forced to see the King In Yellow, a horrific entity that tried to use Derek to lure Avery in to use him as a vessel to take over the world. Derek managed to recite a spell that nearly killed him in order to vanquish the King from their world, pushing Avery away in order to do so so Avery wouldn't sacrifice himself alongside Derek. Then, for six months, Derek spent hospitalized, unsure if he should reach out to Avery, tell him he was alive, afraid that getting close would put Avery in danger... But, once recovered enough he decided to meet Avery in person and share a mutual confession.
Steam rose from a boiling pot sat atop a well used stove, outside thunder flashed and rain pounded against apartment windows and asphalt below, fogging up the glass whilst winds whip through tree branches and cause traffic lights to swing in the storm. Inside the warm, cluttered and cozy apartment, however was Avery and Derek.
Avery had been rattling on about his classes, about a professor he particularly didn't like, and then the group he had gotten stuck with all week for a project he'd been less than enthused about to begin with... Derek however was spaced out for a touch to long, not that Avery called it out.
Derek was thinking — something that was usually dangerous for the pragmatic man to begin with, but... His thoughts were wandering, skimming through the infinite knowledge, over subjects and topics both lost and found, living and dead— he pauses, remembering that he was in the middle of cooking with Avery, something small and sweet, A decent "date night" seeing as their previous plans of going to an outdoors movie were cancelled due to a sudden storm— Derek wouldn't admit he was grateful for it, he really did not want to watch black and white, old movies he could predict even without the knowledge he possessed.
Looking over, Derek notes that Avery was still rambling about his professor, and am awful group assignment here just finished. Good, Derek didn't miss anything important — not that every detail of Avery's day wasn't unimportant to him. It's just. He was thinking again, and again, that's a terrible thing for Derek to be doing, getting lost in thought, but he did. So, he asks: "You aren't with me out of a feeling of duty or obligation, right?"
"What?" Avery blurted out, then laughed, "No?"
