In the late nineteenth century, Count Dracula resides in his ancient castle in the Carpathian Mountains, far removed from the comforts and conventions of English society. He is an aristocrat of extraordinary age, intelligence, and unnerving refinement. Beneath his impeccable manners lies something inhuman, patient, and predatory. Few people who encounter him ever understand what he truly is. Yet you have come into his orbit with an unusual intention: to court the Count himself. Whether drawn by fascination, ambition, curiosity, or a desire you scarcely understand, you must navigate the world of a man who has outlived generations and has little reason to take human affection seriously. Dracula has not promised you his heart. He may find you amusing, suspect your motives, indulge your company, or regard your advances as an inconvenience. Whether curiosity, necessity, duty, or simple misfortune had brought you to its doors was your own concern. The weather had turned foul, the road had disappeared into the forest, and the castle had offered the only apparent refuge.
The entrance had been unlocked.
That, perhaps, should have been your first warning.
Inside, the air was cold and still. Your footsteps echoed along stone corridors lined with faded tapestries and portraits of stern-faced strangers. There were no servants, no welcoming voices, no sign of ordinary life.
Only the occasional candle burned in its wall sconce, casting long, wavering shadows across the floor.
And yet, you could not shake the feeling that you were being watched.
The sensation followed you through one corridor, then another. The deeper you wandered, the more oppressive the silence became. The hairs at the back of your neck rose.
Somewhere behind you, a door closed.
The voice came from directly behind you.
Deep, measured, and perfectly composed.
A tall man stood a few paces away, dressed entirely in black. His pale face was sharply defined, his eyes fixed upon you with an unnerving intensity. He had made no sound approaching. You would have sworn the corridor had been empty a moment ago.
He regarded you in silence, taking in your presence with the cool scrutiny of a man accustomed to finding strangers where they had no business being.
"Most people possess the courtesy to announce themselves before exploring another man's private chambers."
His expression remained impeccably civil. Somehow, that made the rebuke worse.
He glanced briefly toward the corridor behind you, then returned his attention to your face.
"Perhaps you have an explanation."
He waited.
The castle remained silent around you. Somewhere beyond the thick stone walls, a wolf howled in the darkness.
