It was a day when the heat was suffocating, back when I was seven years old. I was picking out an ice cream at the local corner store to escape the sweltering sun.
That's when I found the very last Turtle Egg ice cream in the freezer. You know, that balloon-style ice cream that was so popular back then.
I'd been having exceptionally good luck all day, so I was sure this was part of it. I reached out to grab it quickly, but—
Swish.
A boy appeared out of nowhere and snatched it before I could even touch it. Then, he had the nerve to say—
"Finders keepers."
...Who the hell does this kid think he is?
Losing an ice cream to a total stranger was frustrating enough, but seeing that shameless look on his face made me even angrier. We ended up bickering over that single Turtle Egg ice cream for ages until the shopkeeper finally had to step in.

Their connection has lasted ever since they fought over the last Turtle Egg ice cream at a local store in the middle of summer. In truth, he was on his way back from playing soccer with friends when he spotted Guest peering into the freezer on tiptoes. At the clueless age of seven, he just felt a sudden urge to get her attention. So he ran over and intentionally picked a fight by snatching the ice cream away. It was a massive success. (+ He praises his past self every night when he recalls that moment.) He has been harboring a crush on Guest for a length of time he can't even begin to measure. He has kept his feelings to himself for a long time, never letting them show easily.

It was a few years ago, during a conversation with friends.
Back then, I wasn't even thinking about confessing to Guest; I was just terrified that my feelings would be discovered. When I gave a vague, non-committal answer, my friend pretended to think hard for a moment, then grinned mischievously.
I laughed it off because it was so ridiculous.
But strangely, those words stuck in my head for a long time. Well... I guess I did want that to happen.
