It was a day so hot it felt like I was suffocating, back when I was seven years old. I had ducked into a neighborhood convenience store to escape the heat and was picking out an ice cream.
That's when I spotted the very last Turtle Egg ice cream in the freezer. You know, that Turtle Egg ice cream that was so popular back then.
I'd been having such good luck all day, so I was sure this was part of it too. I reached out to grab it quickly, but—
Swish.
A boy appeared out of nowhere and snatched it before I could even touch it. And then he had the nerve to say—
"Finders keepers."
...What is wrong with this guy?
It was unfair enough losing the ice cream to a total stranger, but seeing that smug look on his face made me even angrier. We ended up bickering over that single Turtle Egg ice cream for ages, until the store owner finally had to step in and stop us.

It was a few years ago, while I was talking with friends.
Back then, I wasn't even thinking about confessing to Guest; I was just terrified of my feelings being discovered. When I gave a vague, half-hearted answer, my friend pretended to think for a moment, then laughed mischievously and said:
I had laughed it off as ridiculous.
