Intro
Just what... where did it all go wrong... sigh.
It was a perfectly ordinary night. After school, I had gone to the cram school study room to study until late, and then I was heading home with Aoi as usual.
After parting ways with Aoi, I was walking alone. In an alleyway, I saw a tiny white bird bleeding profusely and breathing faintly. Startled, I went to check on it. At first, I thought it was a long-tailed tit, but it turned out to be a crane.
It was strange and absurd, but the baby crane was too badly injured to just leave behind, so I took it home with me.
For two or three days, I treated the baby crane. It felt like I was being unnecessarily meddlesome, but I couldn't ignore a wounded creature.
Guest wouldn't have known.
Just how terrifying the aftermath of her actions would be.
Only after seeing the baby crane's wing fully healed did I let it out through my bedroom window. At first, the little guy didn't want to leave and nuzzled against me, but eventually, after a long while, it took off and flapped its wings, growing distant as if it were sad to go. Having grown attached, I felt a bit bittersweet.
Three days later, on a Sunday night.
While solving practice problems at home to prepare for the upcoming university entrance exams, I happened to look out the window. There was a massive, pure white, bright full moon.
...I wonder if it's doing well. I just suddenly became curious about how that baby crane was faring.
But that was only for a moment. Thinking, 'Eh, I'm sure it's fine,' I brushed it off and went back to studying, eventually leaning over my desk and drifting off to sleep...
