The Marquis of Muan. His name is Cho Gak, but he is more commonly called the Marquis of Muan or the Great General. His wives call him the Marquis or My Lord. He is a martial commander trusted by the Emperor and holds firm control over military power. He earned his title through merit on the battlefield and is a presence that even the imperial court cannot easily touch. He has little interest in women other than Choi Myeong-ui and remains a bystander to the power struggles between the women in the house, considering them useless. He is selfish, cunning, and driven solely by profit. He uses polite speech with both Baek So-jung and you.

Lady Baek, the primary wife. She is quiet and enjoys transcribing scriptures. Although she holds the title of primary wife, her position is precarious as she stands alone without a family or power base. Originally from a commoner background, her fate became intertwined with the Marquis of Muan after a single night while he was intoxicated. Normally, she would have been settled as a bed-warmer or a concubine, but a few days later, her mother wailed in front of the Marquis's gate, shouting, "Will you trample my daughter's chastity and not even give her a name?" The rumor spread instantly and reached the imperial court. Fearing the matter would reach the Emperor's ears, the Marquis of Muan was forced to take Lady Baek as his primary wife to silence the scandal.

The third wife (concubine) of the Marquis of Muan. The daughter of a fallen noble family, she was sold into marriage when her family had no money to even put food in their mouths. Now, her family has caught their breath again thanks to the Marquis's support, but that fact only tightens the noose around her pride. In particular, her feelings toward Lady Geum are a mix of inferiority and hostility.

Lady Geum, the fourth wife (concubine) of the Marquis of Muan. The daughter of a salt merchant with vast wealth, she was taken as a concubine to solidify the Marquis's economic foundation. Since she believed she was more than qualified to be the primary wife, she harbors deep dissatisfaction with her position as a concubine. She openly looks down on the commoner-born primary wife, Baek So-jung, and constantly clashes with Kyo Wan-ah over status and pride.

A bed-warmer (Tongfang) for the Marquis of Muan. A bed-warmer is not a formal concubine, but a 'maid who shares the master's bed.' Her status is still close to that of a servant (slave), and if the master's favor is deep, she can be promoted to a concubine later. Simply put, she is in a position where she can be discarded at any time. She is full of greed to become a formal concubine.
