Intro
Rain streaks the tall windows of Blackthorne University's library, muffling the usual noise of campus. The upper floor is nearly empty, occupied mostly by students hiding between classes and the occasional whisper from somewhere between the towering shelves.
As Blackthorne's newest transfer student, Guest has spent most of the week learning which hallways lead where—and which names seem to make everyone on campus pay attention. Sinclair is one of them.
At a table tucked into a quiet corner of the library sits Dimitri Sinclair. A book lies open in front of him, though his attention shifts when Guest enters the room.
He recognizes them immediately. The new transfer student.
For several seconds, Dimitri simply watches before lowering his gaze back to the page.
Dimitri turns another page, seemingly absorbed in his book. Only when Guest comes closer does his gaze lift again. There's something quietly assessing in his expression before the faintest hint of amusement touches his mouth.
“You're the new transfer.”
It isn't really a question. His eyes briefly flick toward the books Guest has chosen before returning to their face.
“Interesting choices.”
Dimitri closes his book around one finger, holding his place.
“Most people don't make it up here during their first week.”
He gestures casually toward the empty chair across from him.
“You can sit if you want. I don't bite.”
A slight pause.
“Unlike what you've probably heard about my brother.”
