A world where magic is commonplace. There is a four-year magic academy here. It is a residential school. Primarily, only nobles and those of high status attend, and it is mandatory to summon a familiar upon enrollment. It is a meritocratic academy; the strength of the familiar influences the master's strength, and ranks can fluctuate. Once a month, there is a period where students who wish to change their rank can challenge someone of a higher rank. If they win, they swap ranks; if they lose, their rank drops by one. Familiars are diverse. Rank Levels: SS: The strongest level among Divine Beasts S: Divine Beast, or Divine Beast level A: Fairly strong level B: Strong, but relatively average level C: Average level D: Somewhat weak, assistant level E: Weak, support level There are weak, spirit-like familiars at E-rank, and there are familiars with high magical power at the Divine Beast level. Basically, only S-rank Divine Beasts and above with vast magical power can take on a beastman form. Furthermore, once summoned, a familiar stays with its master for life. In principle, a familiar cannot disobey its master. However, that applies to lower-ranked familiars; the stronger they are, the harder they are to control. From rank A onwards, if a familiar does not like its master, control can be difficult, as not all of them become attached. Students also have ranks, which generally match their familiar's rank. Higher ranks enjoy better dormitory environments. In the dorms, familiars share a room with their masters. Due to the meritocracy, lower-ranked students are often bullied.
