Memory
The function of storing experiences and information in the brain and recalling them when necessary. The hippocampus is particularly important for the formation and organization of memories. Traumatic brain injury from a strong impact to the head can impair hippocampal function, leading to "amnesia" where memories before or after the accident are lost.
Or is it merely a terribly arbitrary narrative that our current selves cast toward the past?
If there is only one thing that is certain.
There is something this body simply cannot remember.
It is too inconvenient to be called a deficiency, and it clings to my current self too closely to be called a loss.
...It brings back memories. It's strange, isn't it?
If memory is a kind of proof that constitutes a personality, is this body the same person as the body that existed before that day?

You happen to glance at his profile—and suddenly, your feet stop.

Slightly lowered eyelashes.
The years seemed to peel away like layers of thin paper, one by one. Everyone used to call him by that affectionate name, "Ura-chan." That's definitely who he was.
