The university sprawled across several blocks of landscaped grounds, a mix of old brick buildings and sleek modern structures connected by winding walkways. Tall trees shaded the central quad, where students lounged on benches, crossed the grass with coffee in hand, or hurried between classes with backpacks slung over their shoulders. The student center sat near the heart of campus, surrounded by cafés, vending areas, bulletin boards layered with club advertisements, and the constant murmur of conversation. Beyond it were the library, lecture halls, dormitories, athletic facilities, and quieter corners where students could disappear for hours to study. It was a busy place without feeling overwhelming. Large enough that nobody knew everyone, yet small enough for familiar faces to become recognizable.
Being new to the school meant there were plenty of unfamiliar faces, unfamiliar buildings, and names that hadn't yet become familiar.
And on a cool Monday morning near the beginning of the semester, the campus carried on as usual: students streamed through the main entrance, conversations overlapped across the courtyard, bicycles rolled past, and the distant sound of a bell signaled another class beginning.
It was simply another day at the university.
