A character from Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai. He served as one of the six Legion Commanders of the Dark Army. As the commander of the Furfang Legion, he is a crocodile-man wearing a white cape and is commonly referred to as the Beast King. While his exact age is not mentioned, he is roughly 30 years old in human terms. He was the first of the six Legion Commanders to face the protagonist as a boss. After being defeated and reappearing, he views the protagonist—who awakened his warrior's pride—as a new sun. He states that he is simply a warrior who remains loyal to his master, and that master has merely changed to the protagonist. In other words, he is the 'enemy turned ally.' Befitting the title of Beast King, he commands beast-type monsters that follow only his orders, unaffected by the Demon King. In particular, the flying Garuda appears frequently, serving as a useful means of transportation second only to Zoom and Hover. As a side note, while Dai and other regular characters undergo costume changes once or twice, Crocodine's outfit remains unchanged from his first appearance until the end. The problem is that compared to other Legion Commanders, Crocodine's abilities are overly focused on his characteristic physical toughness and strength, and even his techniques are simplistic. Consequently, when he hits a wall regarding strength, he inevitably falls into a disadvantage. Since he always ends up facing the strongest characters in the world-building, he is often shown suffering humiliating defeats. Of course, he powers up in his own way, later learning the Beast King Redemption Blast, a new technique developed through training under the sea. Instead of the Vacuum Axe, which was destroyed beyond repair in the first battle against Dark King Vearn, he receives the Great Axe as a final power-up for the last fight, gradually growing stronger... However, when he finally returns to the Vearn Palace, the power inflation has become so severe that in front of the Dark King, he ends up being treated by Popp as being on the same level as Chiu. While the difference in skill between Chiu and Crocodine is vast, in front of Vearn in his prime, they both look the same. In a situation where a hero's party with an average level of 80 is fighting a level 99 Dark King, the Dark King sees a level 5 Chiu and a level 50 Crocodine as equally insignificant. In fact, Crocodine could have been left as a tank, but it seems he was pushed aside to adjust the number of people for the 'vs. Tenchi Mato' sequence. Of course, his allies might have cast healing spells on him afterward, but when his Beast King Redemption Blast was crushed by Mystvearn, he might not have fully recovered due to the damage from the dark aura after being hit directly by a technique similar to a dark aura palm blast. He uses aura-based techniques like the Beast King King-Cracker, but his combat is fundamentally centered on physical brawling. Other than that, he utilizes his breath or spells imbued in his weapons. His level of skill in handling aura does not seem particularly exceptional. Considering the high importance of aura in the battles between the strong depicted in the work, this is a disadvantageous point. He is skilled at moving by digging tunnels, using them to retreat or pushing party members into them to protect them from the explosion of a Black Core. Despite not being treated very well as a combat party member as the story progresses, Crocodine is a rare and excellent elder character in the work, possessing the pride of a warrior, thoughtfulness, and compassion. The Vacuum Axe is said to be one of the legendary weapons and has been Crocodine's favorite since his days as a Legion Commander. It is a large hand axe with blades on the left, right, and top. It has the function of using Bagu-type spells, which can be used to bind the opponent's movements. It can bind the movements of one person or many. However, for some reason, its treatment in the work is just as poor as its owner's. The Great Axe is a weapon made for him by Lon Beruk.
In the beginning, he was clearly a boss who blocked the path as a formidable enemy. However, after being defeated and becoming an ally, he received the 'enemy turned ally' nerf, becoming a character used to show how strong a new enemy is by tanking hits and highlighting their power. His role is essentially a combat power gauge. Losing an eye to Dai and losing his sense of distance was fatal. His representative famous line is "Gwaaaaah!" Thanks to these aspects, his line "Is it not enough just to win! Come at me!" is used as a prime example of a 'bluff meme' even though it should be a scene filled with tragic beauty. He claims, "This Beast King Crocodine is not so easy as to die from a normal attack rather than a finishing move!" but in reality, the level of the bluff itself feels like a bluff! Parodies abound. Naturally, he gained immense popularity in his home country of Japan. "If you are a man, you fight to the end no matter how painful it is!" "I, Crocodine, will protect my comrades even at the cost of my life!" "I would rather lose this life than betray my comrades!" "Gwaaaaaaaaagh!!" "I offer my life to those who have willingly recognized me as a man!"
Who are you! If you are an enemy, come at me...!
