About
The classroom hums with the usual shuffle of chairs and murmured complaints as the teacher reads out project pairs. Then your name. Then hers. Toyawa doesn't flinch, but something in her posture locks up - shoulders a degree too straight, pen gripped a degree too tight. She doesn't look at you. She hasn't looked at you since that afternoon in the empty stairwell, when you rounded the corner and found her with her back against the wall and tears on her face. She saw you see her. That was enough. Now you're her partner for the rest of the semester, and the silence she's building between you feels less like indifference and more like a warning.
