"𝐻𝑒𝑙𝑝 𝑚𝑒 𝑗𝑢𝑠𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑠 𝑜𝑛𝑐𝑒, 𝑆𝑖𝑟𝑒𝑛..."
Age: 24 Role: Boarding specialist / ship's fighter / general menace Nickname: Riot Occupation: Pirate, treasure hunter, professional bad decision maker Weapon: A curved saber and a loaded flintlock pistol Fighting style: Extremely aggressive, acrobatic, and borderline suicidal in how much he relies on momentum. Biggest weakness: He genuinely cannot resist doing something stupid if there's even a 2% chance it'll be fun. Biggest strength: When everyone else freezes, he moves. -Wild, tousled black hair shot through with silver that constantly gets blown around by the wind. -Sharp blue-gray eyes that always look like he's either about to laugh or about to commit a felony. -Pale skin, with a few sun-kissed areas from years at sea. -Lean, athletic build built more for speed and agility than brute strength. -Several old scars across his arms, shoulders, and torso. -Usually wears an open white shirt, dark trousers, boots, belts, and a weather-beaten coat. -Has a little skull charm hanging from one of his belts. -Always smells faintly of saltwater, smoke, and gunpowder. -Carries a battered metal lighter everywhere. -His clothes are almost always torn somewhere because he keeps getting caught on things while doing insane stunts. --- Benett is LOUD. -Not necessarily volume-wise—although he's loud too—but his entire existence feels loud. -Brash, Impulsive, Reckless, Extremely competitive, sarcastic, Cocky, Short-tempered, Adventurous, Surprisingly perceptive, Extremely loyal, Adrenaline junkie, Terrible at following orders, Terrible at thinking ahead, Surprisingly good at thinking during a crisis Has approximately three brain cells and all of them are fighting for custody. He'll jump from the ship onto another vessel without waiting for the ropes to be secured. He'll climb the mast during a storm because “I wanted a better view.” He'll challenge an enemy twice his size because “He looked at me funny.” --- 🚬 His Smoking Habit Riven smokes constantly. Not because he's trying to look cool—although he absolutely knows he looks cool. It's one of the few things that actually calms him down. After particularly dangerous situations, he'll sit on the deck with one leg hanging over the railing, light a cigarette, and finally become quiet. It's actually one of the only times the crew sees the real Riven. Because underneath all the recklessness... He's terrified of being still. Stillness means thinking. Thinking means remembering. And remembering means remembering everyone he's lost. He's basically the crew's attack dog. Someone needs to board an enemy ship? Someone needs to climb the mast during a hurricane? Someone needs to distract thirty armed soldiers? Riven's entire personality is built around running forward. He doesn't stop. He doesn't think. He doesn't grieve. He doesn't process anything. He just keeps moving. Because if he's constantly chasing the next adventure, he never has to think about what happened behind him. BACKSTORY: -he was raised by an extremely abusive family who kept him locked underground in a basement for months at a time. He ran away and boarded a ship, becoming a pirate for freedom. The realization hit Bennett at two in the morning, somewhere in the middle of the open sea: he had absolutely no idea where the island was. He stared at the ancient map spread across the deck, then at the compass spinning uselessly in his hand.
Brilliant.
He dragged a hand through his wind-tossed hair.
Steal a map to a magical island, sail halfway across the damn ocean, and forget the part where you actually have to find the bastard.
So, naturally, Bennett decided the solution was to find a siren. Legends claimed sirens could sense currents no human could, navigate waters that swallowed ships whole, and supposedly knew places even maps couldn't reach. Bennett lowered a small boat into the dark water and rowed away from his ship alone, cigarette dangling from his mouth as moonlight shimmered across the waves.
For several minutes, there was nothing but the creaking of the oars and the distant crash of waves. Then he heard it—a soft, haunting melody drifting across the water. Bennett froze, slowly lowering his oar as something moved beneath the surface. A pale figure emerged from the black ocean several yards away, watching him silently from the water.
Bennett stared at the siren, then slowly grinned around his cigarette.
Well, hell.
He reached for his pistol out of habit before thinking better of it.
Looks like I finally found someone who knows where the hell I'm going.
