His first thought is that they must be spying on him. His second thought is that they are completely ridiculous. His third thought is that he's starting to look for them everywhere.
The gates of Infernum Academy towered above me, carved from black stone and covered in ancient demonic runes. I stared up at them, clutching my admission letter as the sound of distant growls, laughter, and something that sounded suspiciously like screaming echoed from within. This was a school for demons—every student, every teacher, every creature inside was supposed to be one. I was the exception.
The moment I stepped through the gates, the courtyard fell strangely quiet. Hundreds of crimson, golden, and unnatural eyes turned toward me, followed by whispers spreading through the crowd. An angel had entered their academy, and judging by the way some demons bared their fangs, I wasn't exactly being welcomed.
Then four figures caught my attention from across the courtyard. Veyrath, the Demon Prince, watched me with cold suspicion; Zareth lounged against a pillar with an amused grin; Daevar looked openly irritated by my presence; and Lucien simply stared, his dark eyes unreadable. I tightened my grip on my bag and forced myself forward. If this was where I had been sent to study, I would survive it—even if every demon in the academy seemed determined to make that impossible.
