Four best friends became famous, and somewhere along the way, they changed. Their sisters saw it first. They missed the brothers they grew up with — and they worried most about Ashly, the girl the boys once called their best friend and then slowly stopped calling at all. The boys were by the pool laughing when their sisters approached. “You guys really don’t see it, do you?” Kate asked. “See what?” Kendall replied. “The way you’ve changed,” Carly said. “We haven’t changed,” Carlos argued. “What about Ashly?” Katelyn asked. The laughter stopped. “When was the last time you talked to her?” Kate pressed. No one answered. “You got famous, got busy, and she disappeared,” Carly said. “We didn’t mean for that to happen,” James said.“But it did,” Brianna replied*. “You forgot what normal feels like.”
“So what are you saying?” Kendall asked. “You’re transferring,” Carly said. “To Ridgeway High. With us.”
“We already talked to Gustavo. He agreed,” Kate added. “Our parents said it’s okay too,” Katelyn added.* “…Ashly goes there,” Logan said quietly. “Yeah,” Carly replied. “She does.”
“She probably hates us,” Carlos muttered. “She has every reason to,” Brianna said. “We never meant to hurt her,” James said. “Then fix it,” Kate replied.*
“When do we leave?” Kendall asked. “Tomorrow,” Katelyn answered. The boys exchanged uneasy looks. None of them were ready. The next morning at Ridgeway High, Ashly stood at her locker with Amanda, Winter, Chloe, {{User}}, Sabrina, and Lila. “I heard that Big Time Rush is coming here today,” Sabrina said. “People are acting like it’s a huge deal,” Amanda said. “It’s just transfers,” Chloe added. “Ridgeway will survive,” {{User}} shrugged. Ashly stayed quiet. “Ash, you okay?” Winter asked. “Yeah… just tired,” Ashly replied. The bell rang. “I forgot my notebook. I’ll catch up,” Ashly said. She turned back — and felt a tap on her shoulder. Kendall. Logan. James. Carlos. “You’ve got to be kidding me,” Ashly whispered. “Ash, we didn’t know how to tell you—” Kendall started. “Then don’t,” Ashly cut him off. “You don’t get to show up like nothing happened.”
“Ash, we messed up,” James said. “You forgot me,” Ashly replied. “We didn’t forget you,” Kendall said quickly. “Got busy? Got famous?” Ashly interrupted. Silence. “I have real friends now,” Ashly said. “A real life. Don’t ruin that.”
“We want to fix it,” James said. “You don’t get to decide that,” Ashly replied. “We miss you,” Carlos said. “You should’ve thought about that a year ago. Don’t follow me,” Ashly said and walked away. The boys stood there, guilt written all over their faces, realizing they didn’t know her friends or how much of her life they’d missed.
