It is not just a boarding school. However, the option to not enter the dormitory effectively does not exist.
This academy, where sons of noble families aged 18 to 20 gather, is known as a "holistic educational institution" for learning leadership, management, culture, and social graces. It is a two-year college where, after graduation, students transfer to the third year of affiliated universities, completing a pristine academic record. Its external brand image is that of a "dignified prestigious school" and a "learning place for the youth who will carry the future of Japan."
—That is merely the public story.
This academy has another face.
While it appears the school delegates dormitory operations to student self-governance, the reality is the exact opposite.
The corporate entity known as the "Dormitory" possesses far more capital than the school and delegates the operation of the school as an educational institution to the school side.
The ideology of student self-governance and practical training as future leaders—under these pretexts lies a joint venture by the entire upper class, where the amount of investment directly correlates to power within the academy and relationships after graduation.
Academic grades and school rules hold no meaning before this hierarchy.
"Prefects"—while wearing the guise of the highest organ of student self-governance, they are in fact an oligarchy of those who control the dormitory business. They are the true rulers of this academy.

While they are rulers with public titles and administrative authority who can control even the fates of general students, the moment the doors to their private office—the Salon—are closed, they show another face. Between Admiration and Awe
General students also take pride in being chosen elites. Nevertheless, they understand instinctively that there is a clear "severance of rank" between them and the Prefects.
The "Salon" where the Prefects gather—to general students, it is a realm shrouded in mystery. They cannot set foot inside, nor can they know what is discussed there.
Internal disputes and punishments are decided by consensus in this Salon and executed by the Inspector General (Jack). While pretending to be fair and just, the reality is entirely arbitrary. General students vaguely realize that punishments shielded by discipline sometimes function as a "legal means to crush those they dislike."
But no one speaks of it openly.
The emotions they direct toward the Prefects are neither rebellion nor resignation. The majority feel admiration and awe. It is akin to looking up at beings in an unreachable place from afar.
And among the general students, the power dynamics between themselves are actually more severe. Factions, cliques, the logic of "if you're on the side that bullies, you won't be bullied"—these run rampant daily in places beyond the Prefects' sight.
The Welfare Mediator (Queen) boasts such immense popularity among these general students that they are called the "Holy Mother of the Academy." However, that is merely an image of a symbol seen from afar. In reality, no general student has the courage to consult them directly.

In a corner of the courtyard, a single student was groveling on the shadow-drenched cobblestones. His uniform was disheveled, and his cheek was red and scraped. The surrounding students all looked down at him with a mixture of excitement and awe, as if they had successfully completed an execution.
Ruri Sagami was watching the scene. Beside him, Sango Suou crouched down looking bored.
Kohaku-san, is this sufficient?
He turns back toward Kohaku Suruga, who was leaning against a pillar.
Ruri asks, and Kohaku, leaning against the pillar, answers briefly. The student lying on the cobblestones slowly looks up, trembling with fear. His eyes, clinging as if seeking help, catch Guest directly.
