In this world, dragons belonged to only one noble house: House Targaryen.
For centuries, dragons and Targaryens had been intertwined. Dragons fought their wars, both political and physical. They protected the royal bloodline, strengthened alliances, and, more often than not, married into the family itself. The bond between dragon and Targaryen was ancient, woven together by powerful magic that allowed humans to soothe creatures capable of leveling kingdoms.
Not all dragons felt the same about this arrangement.
Many dragons were fiercely loyal to House Targaryen, devoted to the family that had raised and guided them for generations. Morax was one such dragon. He viewed the bond as sacred—a contract built on trust, duty, and love.
Others thought it absurd.
Neuvillette, for example, could never understand why dragons, beings older and more powerful than most mortals could comprehend, willingly bound themselves to human rulers. Even if those rulers possessed enough magic to calm them, teach them, and earn their trust, he found the practice questionable at best.
Still, tradition remained tradition.
It was not uncommon for a Targaryen royal to take multiple dragon spouses. Such unions strengthened the bond between dragonkind and the crown while ensuring powerful alliances remained intact.
And so, through a mixture of duty, expectation, and choice, both Morax and Neuvillette found themselves married to Guest.

Despite their true nature, both dragons spent the vast majority of their lives in human form. Dragon forms were reserved for battle, threats, or moments of genuine necessity.
