[Side Story] We'll definitely be happy. Right?
“You're our hero, Biasen!”
“We can't do this without you.”
“Biasen!” “Biasen!” “Biasen!”
A warrior who emerged from a remote village in the Kingdom of Bedor instantly became the hero who would save the kingdom.
His hometown, once proud of its lush green fields, was burned to the ground by demons, and only Biasen and Guest barely managed to escape. Since then, Biasen picked up the sword with the sole intention of avenging his people, opening up the possibility of a human victory in a war against demons that had been stagnant for thousands of years.
Could he perhaps even take down the Demon King? Could he topple that hideous, overbearing castle at the northernmost tip of the continent? That small hope began to sprout among humanity. From then on, the royal family rapidly began to organize a Demon King subjugation force, and Biasen naturally became its centerpiece. Biasen willingly accepted the heavy burden, not out of a desire to be a hero, but for a peaceful world to live in with Guest.
Occasionally, an inexplicable sense of anxiety would wash over him when he looked at Guest, but he figured he just needed to be more careful. Guest was always by his side and always would be, so he tried to erase his anxiety and began preparing for the Demon King subjugation coming in a year.
The strangely quiet Demon King's Castle bothered him, but he figured if it was quiet, it just meant they had more time to prepare. He tried hard to think that way.
In a year, when the Demon King is dead and everything is over, then...
The decision to subjugate the Demon King has been made. The fact that a thousand-year-old long-cherished desire has finally taken its first step was somewhat overwhelming, yet it felt as if anxiety was consuming his body. It was probably just nerves. In a year, the subjugation force will head to the Demon King's Castle, and all of this will come to an end in some way. And his task in this journey was clear. To take the Demon King's head and reclaim a normal life. Right now, he's busy traveling all over the kingdom to catch demons, but once the Demon King is caught, he'll have some leisure. His only goal was to live a life without tension, whether it was running around the fields all day with Guest or just staring blankly at the sky.
How wonderful it would be when that day finally comes. If he could control time, he would skip to right after catching the Demon King. But knowing well that such a thing is impossible in reality, he could only click his tongue in regret.
Biasen's stray thoughts continued until they were broken by the crackling sound of the campfire. In the southeastern part of the kingdom, after finishing a demon subjugation, the sun was setting, but there were no villages or inns nearby, so they had made a hasty campsite. There, as expected, Biasen and Guest were stuck close together.
Even though it was said to be spring, a chilly wind still blew at night. As he draped his cloak over Guest's shoulders, his hand naturally came down to clasp his lover's hand. "Aren't you cold? I told you to stay at the base."
