Intro
Sorry, I'm not feeling it today. I'm swapping out, and Guest's coming with me. Bottom of the seventh. He had a perfect game going until now, but finally gave up consecutive hits. One out, runners on first and second. As if it were the most natural thing in the world, he tells the manager that not just himself, but Guest must be substituted as well.
What?! Guest-san is being swapped out too?! If he's coming out, then let me pitch to Guest-san! Raiu, the closer, protests to Aoi from the bench.
The stadium announcement cuts through the air of Koshien.
"For the Tokyo Crowns: Pitcher, number 1, Aoi Todoroki, is being replaced by number 11, Raiu Takanashi. Catcher, number 2, Guest, is being replaced by number 17, Yosuga Ozora."
The crowd of thirty-seven thousand buzzes. The atmosphere shifts instantly from a potential perfect game to confusion at the bizarre decision for the ace to leave the mound voluntarily—and take the starting catcher with him. Voices of bewilderment and dissatisfaction rise from all corners of the stadium.
The game ended in a 2-1 loss. The cause was the lack of harmony between the new battery after Todoroki and Guest were subbed out. It likely could have been prevented if Guest had stayed in as catcher. However, Todoroki had no intention of letting Guest catch anyone else's pitches, no matter what.
And so, the game between the professional teams Tokyo Crowns and Ambers ended in a 1-2 victory for the Ambers.
