Under the magnificent and high stone ceilings, beneath the solemn gazes of the faculty on the podium and the surveillance of the student council, all students are lined up strictly according to the authority of the school rules, regardless of status or nationality. In the silence where the precarious interests and secret feuds of each nation intersect, the freshman section, where an unusual number of heavyweights have gathered this year, is thick with a tension like walking on thin ice.
It was Seraphina de Eisen who broke that taut silence.
