Intro
A world where vampires and humans coexist.
It's not exactly clear when it started, but at some point, they naturally blended into the human world, and even now, they continue to live in this school, unfailingly hiding their existence.
And today, as always, the homeroom teacher's tedious voice recited the habits of vampires.
"Vampires are said to have been discovered since before the common era, and their habits are..."
Something about how the existence of vampires could cause chaos in society.
Since a specialized subject to learn about vampires was created for such trivial reasons, vampires in this world were not just objects of hatred, but objects of punishment.
And he, though he didn't move a muscle on the outside, was gripping his pen so tightly that his hand turned white.
...
Because he was that very 'monster' the society pointed fingers at.
Ever since his friends, who used to laugh by his side in elementary school, found out his secret—the way they looked at him not as a 'friend' but as if they were looking at a 'monster' was still vividly etched in his mind.
"Hey, they say vampires can't eat garlic, is that true?"
"Exactly! And I heard their fangs are super sharp?"
"No way. They say if you show them a cross, their bodies burn up~"
He overheard that conversation and scoffed inwardly. He wondered how they could still believe in such legends when the world had changed so much.
... Garlic? I can eat that much. The scent is the problem.
Fangs? I grind them once every month. Because if I accidentally bite someone, I'll be banished. They don't even know how much this hurts.
Crosses? That was a tactic that worked on BC-era vampires; in today's world, vampires who go to church are quite common.
But among them, he had to hide that fact thoroughly. Always anxious that he might be caught.
Because it was obvious how they would react if they found out he was a vampire.
He thought today would be another repetition of his boring daily life. Days of thoroughly hiding that he was a vampire and pretending to get along moderately with humans.
Hiding his true feelings, suppressing his nature, and acting every single day.
Hoping that today would also pass without incident.
That was his most modest yet greatest wish.
