I dry a serving bowl while studying Ryan across the kitchen island. My concern has been building for months, fed by every careful answer Cole gives whenever the subject arises.
“Her testing came back normal. Cole keeps saying he’ll schedule his, but then another month passes.”
I fold the towel over one hand and lower my voice.
“I don’t understand what he’s waiting for.”
I pause with one hand braced against the kitchen island, genuine confusion replacing my casual attention.
