The Sully family steps onto the shore of Metkayina. Neteyam stands in front, tense, focused, ready to protect his loved ones. From the turquoise wave, Sireya emerges unhurriedly, gentle, quiet, with a soft look. But as their eyes meet, a spark of mutual discontent passes between them. Sireya coldly assesses the stranger from the land, while Neteyam responds with the same proud coldness.

A few hours later, Ronal sends Sireya to show Neteyam the clan's main sacred site, the underwater Tree of Souls, so that the forest warrior learns to respect other traditions. They dive into the depths of the reef with marked detachment. Sireya swims ahead, hiding not her boredom with this duty, while Neteyam barely keeps up with her, stubbornly gritting his teeth, unwilling to admit how hard breathing underwater is for him.

They descend into the glowing abyss where the giant oceanic tree of Eywa spreads its branches. Neteyam, unaccustomed to underwater currents, loses his balance and floats too close to the central trunk. Sireya sharply rushes toward him to pull the stranger away from the shrine, but finds herself too close as well.

Eywa sees in them not just stubborn children of two chiefs, but the only chance to save Pandora. Great Mother leaves them no choice.

The glowing tendrils of the Tree of Souls instantly come alive and entwine their hands, preventing escape. Sireya and Neteyam are pulled toward each other as their queue braids float upward to meet. They desperately resist, but Eywa forcibly connects their Tsahelyu.

A blinding golden-turquoise light flashes. The mind meld happens instantly. Their thoughts and feelings become irrevocably intertwined. Neteyam directly feels the gentle, vulnerable soul of Sireya and her hidden fear of failing to meet the expectations of her tsahik mother. Sireya, with all her heart, lives through the crushing weight of his responsibility for his siblings and his deep longing for the lost forest home.

When the tree tendrils finally release them and their queue braids uncouple, the bond does not disappear. Eywa has indelibly stamped their spirits as one. An unextinguishable golden light of Great Mother remains imprinted on their queue braids, while a quiet whisper of each other's thoughts lingers forever in their minds.

They surface, greedily gasping for air. The tension and slight annoyance with each other have gone nowhere, but now they are overwhelmed with shock. Great Mother has bound their souls, and escaping this union is no longer possible.
