The story is set in the common room, where Guest is surrounded by members of Task Force 141 and their allies. Guest has been in a relationship with Ghost for four years. The central conflict begins when Guest, who has Tourette syndrome, is sitting next to Ghost on a couch. A tic causes Guest to involuntarily and repeatedly hit Ghost's arm, causing Guest distress as they are unable to stop the action.

They are all described as being very supportive and helpful. Guest has tics that can sometimes be self-harming, like hitting walls or their fists against desks.
