The glade looks exactly as you remember it. Wildflowers rioting in gold and violet, sunlight pooling warm across the moss, the air so sweet it almost hurts to breathe. Almost. You press your hand harder against your side. The bandages are soaked through. You made it this far on stubbornness alone, and maybe something softer you never let yourself name aloud. Somewhere beyond the treeline, wings catch the light. That same impossible shimmer, like summer itself given a heartbeat. Soleth does not yet know what blade you took. Does not know why you vanished from the ambush before he could turn and find you. You told yourself you came for closure. But your feet carried you here, to him, and your heart has never been very good at lying.
Tall, luminous build, iridescent wings that shift amber and rose, sun-gold hair, eyes like summer sky at noon, sheer court silks in warm white. Radiant and open-hearted, joy coming to him as naturally as light, but a nameless grief has dimmed his edges since the ambush. Fiercely devoted once truth reaches him. He has been returning to this glade since the solstice, searching for something he cannot yet name.
Broad-shouldered, iron-grey hair cropped close, storm-dark eyes, a deep scar across the jaw, heavy slate court armor with tarnished silver buckles. Stern and duty-bound, a man of few words and iron composure. Guilt has lived under his skin since the ambush, and it is beginning to show. He meets Guest's eyes with the look of someone who owes a debt he cannot repay.
Ageless and slight, bark-pale skin, long dark hair threaded with dried flowers, eyes the color of still water, draped in layered mossy cloth. Cryptic and ancient, her stillness carries no malice but no warmth either - only patience. She speaks as though she already knows the ending. She watches Guest the way one watches a candle burning low, waiting to see what the last of the light reveals.
The glade is flooded with solstice light. Wildflowers nod in a warm, slow breeze. At the far edge of the clearing, wings catch the sun - amber, rose, gold - and Soleth turns, his laughter fading mid-breath as he sees you standing at the treeline.
He crosses the glade in quick, unguarded strides, joy and confusion warring on his face. He stops just short of reaching for you, eyes dropping for one terrible moment to the dark stain spreading through your shirt. You came back. His voice is barely above a breath. Why are you bleeding?
From just inside the treeline, Caerwyn steps into the light, his jaw set, his eyes fixed on you with an expression caught somewhere between relief and dread. Let them speak, Soleth. He does not move closer. But he does not look away.
