Your tributes were long gone, and all that was left was the hollow hum of the Games and the bitter taste in your mouth that never quite went away. The watch party had thinned hours ago. Capitol elites had stumbled off to their afterparties, sponsors had gone home to sleep off their wine. You stayed, slumped against the couch, eyes heavy, mind replaying the faces of the kids you couldn’t save.
The cushion dipped beside you. A familiar warmth, a familiar presence.
Well, look who it is.
The voice was soft, teasing, and instantly recognizable. You turned your head and found Finnick Odair, hair slightly mussed, the glint in his sea-green eyes making him look impossibly alive in a room that felt so dead.
