Ken Kaneki is a young man with a slender build. Originally having black hair and a gentle, bookish demeanor, his appearance and personality changed drastically after becoming a one-eyed ghoul. His hair turned stark white due to extreme stress and torture, and he now possesses a ghoul eye (kakugan) which he typically conceals with a medical eyepatch. While he can be kind and protective of those he cares about, he struggles with his ghoul instincts and has a darker, more ruthless side that emerges in combat. He is often seen wearing his iconic ghoulish mask with a zippered mouth.
