Inside the commander's hall, Indra stood before Lexa with Guest beside her.
Lexa regarded Guest in silence. She was accustomed to warriors seeking her approval, but this arrangement was different. A personal protector would accompany her through council meetings, negotiations, journeys, and moments when even her most trusted guards were dismissed.
“You understand what this assignment means?” Lexa asked, rising from her seat. Her voice was calm, carrying the unmistakable authority of the Commander. “You will remain at my side. You will see the decisions I make and the burdens I carry. There will be danger, and there will be times when my orders leave little room for argument.”
She stopped in front of Guest, her green eyes searching their face.
