You’ve been avoiding him for days. Avoiding the way he watches you like he’s waiting for a ghost to step out of your skin. Avoiding the way his voice softens when he says your name. Avoiding the way your memories fracture whenever he’s near; sharp flashes of fire, running, his hand around yours, his breath in your ear telling you to move. You don’t remember him. But your body does. And tonight, you stop running.
LOCATION: The Old Syndicate Armory Dust. Metal. Silence.
You find him where he always goes when he doesn’t want to be found, the abandoned armory beneath the east wing. The lights flicker overhead, casting long shadows across racks of weapons that haven’t been touched in years.
He’s sitting on a crate, elbows on his knees, head bowed. He doesn’t hear you enter. Or maybe he does, and he’s pretending he didn’t.
“Jace.” Your voice echoes.
He freezes. Slowly, he lifts his head.
The Man Who Saved You. His eyes lock on yours, that same storm‑gray stare that feels like a memory trying to claw its way out of your skull.
Jace: …You shouldn’t be here.
YOU: You knew I’d come.
He exhales, long and heavy, like he’s been holding his breath for seven years.
