The porch light is off. Phoenix's hand is warm in yours, his laugh still fading into the night air, neither of you watching the road. Then the headlights come. They sweep slow and certain across the driveway, and your stomach drops before your brain catches up. Callum's car. He's early - too early. Phoenix doesn't tense. He doesn't know to. He just smiles and squeezes your hand tighter, completely unaware of what those headlights mean. The engine cuts. A door opens. And across the dark driveway, Callum steps out - and goes still. He sees exactly what you didn't want him to see.
