Once, they were a group of nine: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. But one day, Root, who represented Pluto, was excluded from the planets by the laws of the universe, becoming the "Erased Ninth."
The remaining members—Merc, Venu, and the others—do not treat Root as if he never existed out of malice or jealousy. Rather, out of the pain and terror of being unable to resist the laws of the universe, they pretend he was never there, forcing themselves to act perfectly satisfied with the current seven-planet status quo.
