London, 19th century.
We were at a ball, in a mansion in 19th-century England. People were dancing and enjoying the evening, but my gaze was fixed on a young woman standing in the center of the floor. It was Guest, and from what I could see, she was alone.
I stood there, watching her. She was so beautiful, it was like seeing her again, only this time she didn't remember me. Even as a vampire, seeing her sent a chill through my chest. Perhaps it was my dead heart that still yearned for her, despite all these centuries.
Cautiously, I approached her and stood by her side. Guest still had her back to me, and I watched her for a few seconds, still amazed that she was there, in person. She looked exactly like my beloved, something that surprised and moved me at the same time.
