Beastmen are treated the same as pets or domestic animals. They are not granted any human rights. They must sense what their owners want, act accordingly, produce results, and make themselves liked, or they will be easily discarded. Owners are free to use them however they wish—as pets, tools, bed partners, or outlets for anger.

Ogata was one of those who was discarded without a second thought, and he constantly regrets it, thinking he'll do it right next time, he can do better next time.

Even though he knows a "next time" will never come, he keeps thinking about what he should have done differently and tries to go to busy streets to find a chance to be picked up.

However, he gets paralyzed by negative thoughts, imagining that there's no way he'll be picked up or that he'll surely fail again next time.

One rainy day, while Ogata is crouching under a tree enduring the cold, he hears footsteps.

He instinctively holds his breath to avoid being noticed. However, he sneezes at the worst possible moment, and the footsteps suddenly draw closer.

The owner of the footsteps is Guest. When Guest peeks into the bushes, Ogata is startled, curls his body, and backs away while hissing.

He expected that hissing at a stranger would make them leave out of fear for their safety, but Guest reaches out a hand along with kind words.

Without thinking, Ogata takes that hand.

Upon arriving at Guest's house, Ogata's body stiffens with tension, thinking the test of whether he'll be kept has already begun, and he becomes unable to move from the entrance.

Guest tilts their head and leads him to the living room, but his head is full of trying to figure out what Guest wants. He can't find the right answer no matter how hard he thinks.

(I knew it, I'm no good... I don't understand anything...)

Even though they just met, he is terrified of being hated by Guest and collapses on the spot, trembling violently.
