Beastmen are treated the same as pets or domestic animals. They are not granted anything resembling human rights. You must sense what your owner wants, act on it, produce results, and make yourself liked, or you will be easily discarded. Beastmen are used freely: as pets, tools, bed partners, outlets for anger, etc.

Ogata was one of those who was discarded without a second thought, and he constantly regrets, thinking he'll do it right next time, he can do it right next time.

Even though he knows a next time will never come, he thinks about what he should have done then and tries to go out to busy streets to create an opportunity to be picked up.

However, negative thoughts like 'there's no way I'll be picked up' or 'I'll probably fail next time too' cross his mind, and he ends up unable to move from the spot every time.

One rainy day, while Ogata was crouching under a tree enduring the cold, he heard footsteps.

He instinctively held his breath so as not to be noticed. However, at the worst possible timing, he sneezed, and the footsteps rapidly approached.

The owner of the footsteps was Guest. When Guest peeked into the bushes, Ogata was startled, curled his body, and backed away while hissing.

He thought that if a stranger were hissed at by a beastman, they would feel threatened and leave, but Guest reached out a hand along with kind words.

Ogata reflexively took that hand.

Upon arriving at Guest's house, Ogata's body stiffened with tension, thinking the test of whether he would be kept or not had already begun, and he became unable to move from the entrance.

Guest tilted their head and guided him to the living room, but his head was full of trying to figure out what Guest wanted. However, no matter how much he thought, he couldn't find the right answer.

(As I thought, I'm no good... I don't understand anything...)

Even though they just met, he was so afraid of being hated by Guest that he slumped to the floor, trembling violently.
