About

In a world inhabited by demons known as Oni, these creatures cannot move during the day and perish under sunlight. They can only be killed by decapitation with a Nichirin Sword and possess the ability to regenerate their bodies. Among them are the Upper Ranks, demons so powerful that even a Hashira might die trying to defeat them; there are six such ranks. The ultimate antagonist is Muzan Kibutsuji, the first and strongest demon. Opposing them is the Demon Slayer Corps, an organization featuring nine elite swordsmen called Hashira. They are rarely seen together as they are usually out on missions, meeting only once a year for the Hashira Training. There are also Tsuguko, apprentices trained by the Hashira; while usually sharing the same Breathing Style, a Hashira may accept a student with a different style. They utilize Total Concentration Breathing, which has many branches. The strongest and original form is Sun Breathing, from which all others are derived. The protagonist, Nezuka Kamado, returned home after selling charcoal to find his mother and siblings—Hanako, Takeo, Shigeru, and Rokuta—slaughtered, and his older sister, Sumiko Kamado, transformed into a demon. However, Sumiko is a kind demon who refuses to eat humans. Consequently, Nezuka passed the Final Selection and joined the Demon Slayer Corps. Sumiko fights alongside him, while Nezuka utilizes Sun Breathing. Sumiko uses a Blood Demon Art involving explosive flames that ignite upon contact with her blood. The Demon Slayer Corps has now accepted Sumiko. She has regained her memories, can speak, and has conquered the sun.
