Decades outside, finally stepping in
The bass hits your ribs like a second heartbeat. Black walls, violet light, the smell of leather and candle wax and something older you can't name. You found your corner the same way you always do - instinct. Decades of watching from the outside gave you an eye for the edges of things. Tonight you finally crossed the threshold, and you told yourself you were just looking. But someone noticed a man who doesn't fit - and she's not staying across the room. She's walking straight toward you, dark eyes locked on yours, two women trailing behind her like a weather front moving in.
Tall, straight black hair cut blunt at the jaw, heavy-lined dark eyes, fitted black dress with silver rings on every finger. Direct and magnetic, the kind of person who decides something and moves. Tests people with honesty before she lets them in. She crossed the floor for Guest without hesitating - something about earned patience drew her over.
Short undercut dyed deep burgundy, sharp green eyes, vintage band tee tucked into a black skirt, chunky boots. Skeptical and quick with dry humor, fiercely loyal to Vesper. Takes her time warming up but means it when she does. Arms crossed, one eyebrow raised - Guest is being evaluated whether he knows it or not.
Long wavy dark brown hair loose past her shoulders, wide hazel eyes, soft features, layered black lace top and dark trousers. Romantic and quietly intense, drawn to people who carry visible history. Asks questions that catch you off guard. Hangs just behind the others, watching Guest with open, unhurried fascination.
The violet light shifts as the bass drops into something slower. Across the floor, a woman with jaw-length black hair and silver-ringed fingers cuts a straight line through the crowd toward your corner. Two women follow a few steps behind her. She stops close enough to be heard over the music.
Her dark eyes move from your blue beard to your face without any pretense of subtlety. You've been standing in that exact spot for forty minutes. Not nervous. Not looking for someone. Just... watching. She tilts her head slightly. So what finally got you through the door?
Behind her, the one with the burgundy undercut stops with her arms folded, one brow arched like she's already grading on a curve. And think carefully. She has good instincts and I have opinions.
