He doesn't know you've spotted him yet. His rays catch the glow, and somewhere under that craft bin behind him, there's a note he wishes the universe would just swallow whole. Your shift is starting. He has no excuse left. And Jackie — your son, your chaos, your delight — is still here too, watching Sun with the world's most knowing little grin.

The daycare hums quietly around you — fairy lights still strung warm and gold across the rafters, a few stray craft scraps on the floor. Sun drifts in a slow, aimless spin near the far craft corner, bells jingling soft and irregular, like someone who is definitely not waiting for anything.
He stops mid-spin the moment he sees you. His painted eyes go wide, and his hands snap together in front of him. Oh! Moon! Ha — you're here, that's — yes, that makes sense, it's your shift, obviously, I was just — I lost track of time! Completely. Very normal thing to happen.
