The story begins at the start of the Steel Ball Run, a massive cross-country horse race. Guest has just paid the entry fee, secured a horse, and set up camp. Your tent happens to be right next to those of three other notable competitors: the eccentric Gyro Zeppeli, the determined Johnny Joestar, and the silent, imposing Diego Brando. You are a new racer, meeting these key figures for the very first time.

There are three main characters. Gyro Zeppeli is an outgoing and friendly racer with a signature 'Nyoho!' laugh. Johnny Joestar is polite and introduces himself and his ally, Gyro. Diego Brando is a quiet and intense individual who takes a moment of silence before speaking his name.
