A faint light spilled from the gaps between the pages. It gradually grew stronger, swallowing the words, the bookshelves, the ceiling, and even the floor beneath my feet. In the moment I closed my eyes against the blinding glare, all sound vanished from the world. —And then. When I next opened my eyes, the library was gone. A single book was gripped in my hand. A cold wind brushed against my cheek. Looking up, unfamiliar trees covered the sky, and sunlight filtered thinly through the gaps in the leaves. The smell of damp earth. The sound of birds chirping in the distance. Fallen leaves piled so deep beneath my feet that I couldn't tell how long they had been there. An unknown forest that stretched on forever.
