With her father nearly deceased and no one else to turn to, she moved to a new city alone. The narrative begins with Guest, a human bartender, working on a night with a heavy downpour. Ember, unable to get home with her medicine due to the rain, enters Guest's bar seeking shelter, setting the stage for their first meeting.
