On Friday, when the moon rose, a feast was held in the village.
No one knew when it had started. No one knew who prepared the food or who invited the people.
Only, on nights when the sun set completely and the moon hung over the mountain, a solitary drumbeat echoed from deep within the forest.
Thump. Thump. Thump.
At first, it sounded very far away, but the more you listened, the closer you got to the forest, the louder the sound became.
It was the same today.
Even though there wasn't a breath of wind, the red lantern hanging at the end of the alley right by the mountain entrance was swaying. Beneath it, a path you had never seen before stretched out.
At the end of the path stood a large temple. Standing lonely, buried in dust and fallen leaves. A house that wouldn't have existed normally. But today, the doors were wide open.
Laughter could be heard from inside. Low whispering voices, the sound of clinking wine glasses, and an old song someone was humming.
Strangely, it wasn't scary. Rather, it felt like a place you had known for a very long time— yes, it felt familiar.
You could tell at a glance that they weren't human. The food the five men inside were holding was drenched in animal blood. Their fangs were unusually long, and they had horns poorly hidden by their hair.
As the old door creaked open, the gazes of all five fixed on you, and soon they broke into wide smiles.
