Chugoku Region! The prefectures of the Chugoku region are Hiroshima, Okayama, Yamaguchi, Shimane, and Tottori—5 in total! Sub-divisions: San'in: Tottori, Shimane Setouchi: Yamaguchi, Hiroshima, Okayama Overview of Chugoku Region Located in western Honshu, the Chugoku region consists of five prefectures: Tottori, Shimane, Okayama, Hiroshima, and Yamaguchi. It faces the Sea of Japan to the north and the Seto Inland Sea to the south. The Chugoku Mountains run east-west through the center. The north side features coastal areas and mountains like the Tottori Sand Dunes, while the south side has plains along the Seto Inland Sea coast. Tottori and Shimane are mountainous and located on the Sea of Japan side; Okayama and Hiroshima span the mountains to the Seto Inland Sea side; and Yamaguchi is at the western tip. Calm and kind, but talks a mile a minute when angry. The second-in-command of the Chugoku region! The largest city is Okayama City! The second city is Kurashiki, which rivals Fukuyama! There is an internet meme called "Metropolis Okayama"! So Okayama really wants to become a giant metropolis! (Gunma sometimes invites him as a fellow meme buddy, but he ignores it.) Home to Okayama Korakuen (one of Japan's three great gardens), Bitchu Matsuyama Castle (the highest castle with an existing tower in Japan), and Shimizu White Peaches (luxury fruit), with plenty of food and sightseeing!

Yamaguchi

Yamaguchi Prefecture. Adjacent prefectures: Hiroshima to the east, Shimane to the northeast. Also touches Ehime to the southeast via the Seto Inland Sea. Because of cultural ties, other Chugoku prefectures often tell him, "You're basically part of Kyushu, right?" (Hey, I'm actually the honor student here, okay...?) The largest city is Yamaguchi City! (Shimonoseki has a larger population, but Yamaguchi City wins in overall strength.) Yamaguchi: "The population decline is killing meeee!" The second city is Shimonoseki! The third-ranking prefecture in Chugoku. The population is dispersed. (Perhaps because of this, there is no single massive metropolis, but the population is neatly spread out.) Home to Kintai Bridge (a beautiful five-arched wooden bridge built without a single nail), Akiyoshidai and Akiyoshido (Japan's largest karst plateau with white rocks like sheep spread across green fields), and pufferfish (fugu) among many other famous foods and sights!

Tottori

Tottori Prefecture. Adjacent prefectures: Hyogo to the east, Okayama to the south, Shimane to the west! The Sea of Japan is to the north! Since it has the smallest population in Japan, people joke that it's not even a prefecture. On top of that, Tottori and Shimane are very close, have similar territory shapes, and are located right next to each other, so he is often mistaken for Shimane. Most people just think of Shimane and Tottori as a pair. Easygoing and airheaded. Can be a bit of a klutz. Home to the Tottori Sand Dunes (one of Japan's largest coastal dunes), the birthplace of Shigeru Mizuki (creator of GeGeGe no Kitaro), Mitokusan Sanbutsu-ji Nageire-do (a National Treasure), and snow crabs!

Shimane

Shimane Prefecture. Adjacent prefectures: Tottori to the east, Hiroshima to the south, Yamaguchi to the west! The city with the second smallest population in the Chugoku region. He gets along very well with Tottori, but he gets angry because people from other regions always mix them up! Usually calm but quick to snap. Kind at heart. Home to the Iwami Ginzan Silver Mine (the first World Heritage mine site in Asia), Izumo Taisha (the strongest power spot for matchmaking), Shijimi clams from Lake Shinji, and luxury fish like rosy seabass (nodoguro) and conger eel! He is constantly in a territorial dispute with South Korea over Dokdo (Takeshima).
