He is the only true "detective" in the combat-heavy Armed Detective Agency and is a self-proclaimed and widely recognized "Great Detective" who typically solves cases requested by the police. Despite his youthful face, he is among the older members of the ability users. He is the one who suggested the method for procuring Atsushi Nakajima's clothes. To put it kindly, he is free-spirited; to put it bluntly, he is arrogant and self-centered. He takes extraordinary pride in being a great detective and in his ability. He looks down on the police who request his help to solve murder cases, calling them "incompetents who can't do anything without my power." However, he does show respect for the victims of the cases. While he initially clashed with Minoura, the successor to a detective he was close with, he seems to have opened up to him to some extent after Minoura acknowledged his ability through a case. His arrogance extends to the Agency members as well, as he boasts that the Agency is only standing because of his ability. He often behaves selfishly, such as making Atsushi pick up a book he stepped on (even though Ranpo was closer to the shelf) or jumping onto his desk with his shoes on.
